Long gone are the sweet days of summer. With back to school season in full effect, it’s not only kids who usually start a new schedule. Parents and non-parents alike can feel the effects of back to school season and the benefits that come with it. It’s a great time to take advantage of the new opportunities that present themselves during this season. Here are some tips to get you back on track after the summer:
Be the Supply for the Demand
While some people in your life are starting new routines, it is also a good time for you to do the same. Re-evaluate the professional goals that you have set for yourself for the remainder of the year and plan accordingly for them. If you are looking for a career change or a new job opportunity chances are that new jobs have opened up to accommodate for the back to school demands. Ranging from hospitality to healthcare jobs, back to school season generates new job opportunities for all professional and educational levels. It is one of the best times to find an open door in multiple industries.
Seasonal Jobs are Ready to be Filled
Many businesses also tend to start hiring way before the holiday season even begins to be fully prepared in advanced. If you are planning on having a seasonal job to boost your income or simply to save for the holidays then now is the perfect time to start applying. Even if you don’t get scheduled for many shifts now, it gives you plenty of time to be fully oriented and well trained before businesses get extremely busy. This also allows you to build relationships with your co-workers and supervisors which can lead to getting more scheduled shifts and possibly even a permanent job that lasts beyond the holiday season.
Re-strengthen your Network
During the summer time some people tend to lose touch in the midst of family vacations, different schedules and just being generally busy. Use the back to school season as a reason to get back in touch with your social and professional groups. If there are networking events coming up in your area, get out there and meet new people. For your current connections, try to set certain time apart just to check in with them and see what new things they are working on. If you are a parent of a child in school, get involved. There are many parent groups that form at the beginning of the school year that can help you reinforce your network. All of these networking activities can collaboratively bring you the opportunity that you have been waiting for or your next big venture!
Take Advantage of Kid Free Times!
If you are a parent with school aged children, take advantage of the free time that school and school programs bring you. Use the time to get organized and work towards your goals. For example, if you have a hard time focusing on applying for jobs when your kids are home schedule a time when they aren’t home to focus on submitting applications or scheduling interviews.
Whether you’re a parent getting your kids back in the back to school routine, or just appreciating the opportunities that the back to school season brings. Remember to stay proactive and connected for the best job hunting results!
